RESEARCH TITLE: THE ROLE OF THE PROPHETIC TRADITION IN PRESERVING NATURAL RESOURCES: WATER AS A MODEL

Dr. ESHRAGA MOHAMED NOUR ELBADAWI

Abstract:
The aim of the research was to highlight the role of the Sunnah (prophetic tradition) in conserving water, and to guide people to the principles that the Sunnah has set for conserving water. The reason for choosing this topic was to show that the Sunnah preceded all legislations and laws in enacting legislation for preservation of water. Another reason was to guide people to the principles in the Sunnah that contribute to the preservation of water, and to highlight the legal texts that encourage conserving water. The research problem is represented in the central question: What is the position of the Sunnah on the issue of water conservation? What are the principles set by the Sunnah to conserve water? In this research, the researcher followed the inductive, analytical and deductive approach, as she followed what was related to the issue of water conservation through the Prophetic Sunnah and extrapolated the Prophetic texts and then analyzed them to arrive at an integrated approach to water conservation. Through this study, the researcher reached a number of results, including: The Sunnah confirmed the principle that water is a public property, and the Sunnah is replete with a number of principles that contribute to guiding people to preserve it. The Sunnah was unique in providing some legal measures in the field of water conservation, and Islam took the lead in preserving natural resources.
