THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION IN ALASKENDERANI'S KASHEF-UL-ASRAR ANORANYAH ALQURANYAH
Abstract
The commentary of Kashef-ul-asrar Anoranyah Alquranyah (i.e. Exploring the Luminous Quranic Secrets) by the physician Al-Imam Muhammad Alaskenderani is considered to be amongst the early commentaries. This commentary discussed the explanation of Astronomical and earth objects, animals, plants, and gemstones that have been mentioned in the Noble Quran through the discoveries of experimental science. Despite its distinctive presentation of the topics, the commentary has not been paid attention to by researchers, and has not been so famous in the scientific media. This is the research gap of the current investigation. The study at hand aims at shedding light on the characteristics of scientific explanation in Alaskenderani's commentary.
I employed the descriptive method to present the scientific methodology that Alaskenderani used in his commentary. Results showed the following: contemplation in the creative creation of God entrenches faith in Allah, Exalted be He, and that scientific explanation is one of its means. This field is still open for posing the discovered scientific facts and explaining their relations to the verses of Allah's Book (i.e. the Noble Quran) after aligning those facts with the fundamentals and rules of commentaries (i.e. tafseer). What Alaskenderani had carried out in his commentary is considered a distinguished attempt in this field that needs to be given tributes.
