This research examines an outstanding personality in the ShÉfiÑÊ School of thought—a personality that left an immense impact on many scholars who came later. The study finds it very necessary to investigate his efforts with special focus on the jurisprudential choices he made. The research problem revolves around the fact that ‘jurisprudential choice’ and also ‘authoritative or authentic statement’ both were practiced by later scholars in their writings. This practice, therefore, is not a prerogative of anyone among the scholars. The research aims to highlight the efforts of al-BÉjËrÊ and some of jurisprudential choices he made. The research relies on a number of approaches such as historiographical and analytical methods. It concludes with some findings: that al-BÉjËrÊ is among the scholars of the ShÉfiÑÊ school of thought who played a big role in serving the school. He was prolific with a variety of exceptional writings. In addition, he had his own jurisprudential choices and authoritative or authentic statements implied in those writings.
